i have, unfortunately, been really into afk journey this month. i'm not sorry because it's at least a better game than some of the other mobile options and it causes me less psychic damage than hello sweet days has recently. it's been a good distraction and i've really needed that.

speaking of things i really needed: i got to see one of my best friends at the start of this month and instead of booking a cabin getaway they stayed in our house which was fun but i don't think i'll want to do it again. i like having a blank slate to share between us better. we talked about saving up to do the mountains properly next time we holiday together though so that's going to be amazing. right after they left we realized we'd missed pride to spend their last morning in town at the aviation museum (i don't regret it), and literally a day later storms so bad they closed the airport rolled in...

everyone has seen the big storms that ripped through chicago but most people don't know that it actually started building up tornado momentum as it tore through sask and manitoba. we had multiple spouts outside of the city and enough alarm alerts that i did actually get scared and hustle the cats into the basement laundry room - where we discovered a crack in our foundation had halfway flooded it! as if the damage the roof took during the last "fist sized hail" storm wasn't bad enough, we had to scrap like 90% of our cute little room build before it got mildew-ey. of course the insurance company are worse than dogs about the whole thing so they've just been kicking back and sending the most stupid man alive to ask us if we live in an apartment or not...

at least the contractors we managed to find to repair what we know insurance won't touch have been busy all week despite the florida-style flash rains we're getting. i don't love hopping a moat to leave the house but i am at least hopping a manmade moat that fixes an issue instead of the alternative.

in less annoying news, star and i cracked and pirated tomodachi life and i'm having the time of my life making us in it. i've been making all of our miis without noses because it makes it easier to cartoonify things and i think they're all very cute. it is taking a massive psychic toll on me to hear so much feedback, especially when the miimaker can't render loadbearing features well, but once they're made i can throw my hands up and run away (hand the controller to star who does the "now hold hands" half of the gameplay)

update: with the foundation contractor all wrapped up i've been really happy about the fact that they also pulled up and put back our paving stones so the grass that had been growing up from under them is well and truly tamp tamped back down. now we have to focus on getting the garden mowed and trying to dig up the old fence where our giant privacy bush has grown through it so when the men who are going to install a fence that works come they can actually do that. i'm worried about killing the bush but realistically i'd rather have a gate that shuts and the ability to use my own yard™ so we can barbecue and build a catio.
